While this definition seems difficult to comprehend, especially for young children, the instructors at Emmons’ TaeKwonDo have broken this down to be more easily understood. For the children in our program, they are taught that indomitable spirit means to have a good attitude. Win or lose. Good day or bad day. To someone nice to them, or someone that is mean to them, they are always to strive towards a good attitude.
As martial artists should always live by the tenets, this allows for our students to become more socially adept in difficult situations. Even our younger children are encouraged to show good sportsmanship, like being a good winner and a good loser. This in turn helps to prepare them for social situations where they may not always be the winner.
The theory of indomitable spirit also helps to prepare our students for stressful social situations, such as bullying. In most cases, bullies are looking for a negative reaction from the victim. By instilling in our students to have a good attitude in the face of adversity, we help to minimize their risk of being bullied. Lack of a response will in most cases direct the bully’s attention elsewhere.
The instructors understand that being a good leader is to be a role model for all while trying at all times to show indomitable spirit .
As adults we understand that indomitable spirit means overcoming all odds - "To fight for what you belief in" and to never give up.
It also means to protect those weaker, and smaller then you, to protect your family, your community and your country.
To show Indomitable spirit is the heart of the Black Belt.
We here at John Emmons TaeKwonDo Academy will help instill that kind of spirit into all our students (kids and adults).
Come be a part of us and develop your INDOMITABLE SPIRIT and watch you or your child grow into a leader in life.
